Wednesday 10th March 2010 | welcome
Welcome to RPC's website
Welcome to Ravenshead Parish Council's website, designed to provide information on our activities and give details of facilities available in the Village.

Ravenshead itself is a pretty dormitory village between Mansfield to the north and Nottingham city to the south, with Newstead Abbey Park lying within our boundary. It is a large village comprising just over 2300 houses, two primary schools and a wide range of other facilities.

The Parish Council has existed since 1987 and comprises 11 Councillors, elected every four years, with a paid part-time Clerk and Proper Officer. Parish Councils have a range of statutory duties and can raise funding, using a Precept system linked with Council Tax, to provide things such as street furniture and part-finance Village activities. Most of our spend is used for the provision of Leisure Facilities at our two play parks at Haddon Road and Abbey Gates and our Leisure Centre.

Ravenshead Leisure Centre is situated on a 12-acre site off Longdale Lane and is the freehold property of the Parish. Outside, there are six football pitches, three multi-use tennis courts and a four-lane bowling green, plus a children's play area, play wall and youth shelter. Inside, we have two sportshalls, the size of one and four badminton courts. Community rooms, kitchen and changing facilities are available.

The Leisure Centre is perhaps unique in that it operates using a Key-Holder system which provides users with appropriate keys to access their chosen sporting facility, against a pledge to observe the rules and to pay a key deposit. In this way we keep our costs to a minimum and set reasonable fees for use.

The Parish Council prides itself on the good value and condition of these facilities, which have been largely developed since 1987 with an ongoing policy of upgrading and improving the resource year on year.
